The panel you pick matters. What happens before the first panel goes up matters more.
Most siding failures are not the siding. They are water that got behind it years ago and was never found. That is why we pull the old siding rather than install over the top of it — covering a wall hides exactly the soft sheathing, failed flashing, and rot you most need to see. Once the wall is open we replace any compromised sheathing, correct the flashing at windows, doors, and roof-to-wall transitions, and install a proper weather-resistant barrier before a single new panel is hung.
From there we install CertainTeed vinyl, insulated, or Cedar Impressions® siding to manufacturer specification. Insulated siding adds a rigid foam backer that stiffens the panel, improves impact resistance, and adds continuous R-value across the wall — the studs stop being thermal bridges — which is what actually moves a heating bill in a Pennsylvania winter. Color runs all the way through the panel instead of sitting on the surface, so a scratch does not flash a different shade and there is no repainting cycle waiting for you in ten years.
If the roof is also near the end of its life, doing both together is usually less disruptive and less expensive than two separate mobilizations: one crew, one dumpster, one cleanup, and the flashing where the roof meets the wall handled by the same people who did the roof. How long does siding installation take?+
Most homes run three to five days depending on square footage, how many gables and dormers there are, and whether sheathing underneath has to be replaced. You get a specific timeline in the written proposal.
Do you have to tear off the old siding first?+
Usually yes. Installing over the top hides whatever is happening underneath, and soft or rotted sheathing is exactly the thing you most need to find. We pull the old siding so we can see the wall before anything new goes on it.
Will the color fade?+
CertainTeed vinyl is colored all the way through rather than surface-coated, so a scratch does not show a different color underneath and there is no repainting cycle. We will tell you which line and which fade coverage you are looking at before you pick a color.
